Everything you Need to Know on Getting a New Electrical License

The time to advance your electrical career by getting your license is now.  If your heart is set on taking your career to the next level and make a living by earning what you deserve, congratulations!  It takes guts to say enough is enough and take the next step.

Let me help you get the ball rolling by getting everything you need to get your electrical license in one all-inclusive blog.

This blog was written for Texas Electricians, but if you are from out of state you should consult with your state or local municipal licensing department for guidance.

  1. Go to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) to download and print your Electrical License Application.  Fill it out completely crossing all your t’s and dotting all your i’s.  You will need to attach your verification of employment and hours accrued under a master electrician.  You’ll also need to include a criminal record if you have one.

Here are links to the resources that can help make this step as simple as possible.

  1. TDLR will then have PSI Exams send you a postcard allowing you schedule and pay for your electrical exam.

  1. Take the electrical exam and pass with a minimum of 70%.

  1. Once PSI sends your passing score to TDLR you will receive your new license.

Getting your electrical license is simple once you know what to look for and if you prepare for the exam properly.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send us an e-mail and we’ll get back to you.  As always, if you have any exam prep tips you feel could be used on this website, send us and e-mail so we can share your tips with other electricians.
Thank you for reading.

Electrician Candidate Information Bulletin

Good Morning, Today we received a call from someone asking us the phone number to the PSI so they can change their appointment.  While we don't do the actual exams here, we are more than happy to help :)  We put together a cheat blog with the link to the ECIB , Table of Contents, FAQ's, and some shameless marketing for our seminars and books.  (I'd be a terrible business person if I didn't add a couple of sales links ;) Feel free to share this page with any Texas electrician preparing for their exam. This will come in handy. The Electrical Candidate Information Bulletin can be found here .  You may download and save it, print it or just read it online. Make sure to bookmark this link so you can refer to it during your studies.
